About

Megan McCracken

Welcome!

In 2018 I left corporate life to pursue a portfolio career, with the goal of doing more of the things I love and fewer of the things I don’t.

This has led to a rewarding combination of non-executive director roles, leadership coaching, community work focussed on promoting gender balance in historically male-dominated industries, and a super fun side hustle, as an interviewer of authors and leadership experts.

While these things may seem different from each other, they are connected by my desire to ask great questions that draw out the best in others – be they organisations, leaders, leadership experts, authors, or anyone who wants support to navigate their career.

I grew up on a farm in the Great Southern region of Western Australia in a house full of books.  Having absorbed a wide range of fiction and non-fiction early, I could see broad horizons ahead. At twelve I wanted to be a journalist, an Egyptologist, a spy, or first female Prime Minister of Australia.

On my first day of university, I chose a subject at random I had never heard of – Industrial Relations.  After a couple of early wobbles finding work in a recession, I grew rapidly under the influence of an extraordinary and humble boss who showed me the value of true leadership and what great teamwork looks like.

Over the next thirty years I built on this extraordinary early experience with a broad and exciting career in the resources, transport, and energy sectors across three Australian states, with a decade as an executive, and complementary pro-bono work learning to lead volunteers.

In 2021, the wonderful team at NAWO (where I was Chair at the time) nominated me for the National Women in Industry Awards.  I was shocked and thrilled to win the Industry Advocate Category. I do not seek out accolades, however I know that winning awards such as this is recognition that advocating for gender diversity to be valued, and balanced at every level in operations is a worthwhile pursuit.

I live in Perth with my family, my books, two working dogs and an Australian Mist cat.
